I decided not to keep these based on style, but I thought I'd weigh in on sizing. I got a half size smaller than my usual and that seemed like a good fit. I usually order a wide shoe but did not in this case (thinking they were wide already) and they were too snug in that regard. So while I usually order 10 1/2 wide, a 10 wide in this shoe would fit me well. My two stars are based on the fact that it is really annoying for customers to have to guess their size based on other reviews. I almost ordered a 9 1/2. I buy my shoes online and 95% of them are true to size. (To clarify, the reviews I read were on Zappo's where there is discussion of the mis-sizing). I have not had this issue with other Timberland shoes.

Johnston & Murphy Men's Runnell Chukka Boot Reviews

Boot is slightly over-sized. Price compared to what the local retailers sell it for is fantastic. I bought the leather version instead of suede because I wear a size 13 and tend to knock things when I walk and felt these would hold up better. I like the styling, they are very comfortable. Area around the ankles takes a bit to break in but once the break in are no issue. I will buy again (hope these last me awhile though). The only gripe I have is they are made in China (not that I am racist, would just like to see my money stay in this country).

This is my first pair of Johnston & Murphy Chukka boots. I have owned the original Clarks, but I liked the color and shape of these. I have to say they are great. I wear them to work almost everyday in NYC (except rainy days). I did spray them with a suede protector, but for now I wear them on dry days. They go great with jeans and khakis. I walk in NYC alot, they are comfortable even after a long day of subway rides and running up and down stairs. I was surprised by the complements I got from other guys on the boots. That never happens to me. Great buy and cheaper than on Zappos.

I happened to try on these shoes while barefoot and I am glad I did. These shoes are the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever worn. True to size. Classy look. I feel like Ronald Reagan because there is a famous pic of him wearing this style of boot.

I've been wearing chukka boots for years. Cabela's had decent ones but stopped selling them, so I had to go elsewhere. Johnston and Murphy make excellent shoes (been wearing my dress J&M black shoes for 10 years now), so my expectations were high. I was not disappointed. Chukka boots tend to wear a little bigger on my feet owing to their design. They fit just right for me.

If a chukka tends to "slosh" around your foot a bit, don't be surprised. They were designed for battle in World War II during the African campaign. Obviously technology has made them much better since then. If you expect them to "fit like a glove" then chukkas may not be right for you. Either way, this is a beautiful pair of shoes that goes well with casual or "dress casual" attire.

And by the way Clarks chukkas are not very good. Stick with other brands.

The materials and quality of this shoe appear nice and I really wish it fit my foot, but unfortunately even in extra-wide size the toe box is pointed enough to cram my big toe against my second toe and I can't tolerate that. I ordered both the wide and extra-wide version and honestly I couldn't tell a difference. The length was true to size and the weight is incredibly light for a leather chukka.

Update: I forgot to add that these shoes are great for flat feet like mine! The shoes are really stiff, so they hold your feet up really well. Also, if you have genetic bunions like me,there is plenty of round toe room. (These shoes won't make the problem worse.) I love these boots and a few improvments have been made since I bought my old Eastland boots from 6 years ago: The tongue is cloth instead of being uncomfortable leather (so it's more comfortable when it bends), and the metal eyelets are permanetly sp? sealed so you no longer have to thread the lace through "open" ones. But, you can still take out the laces through the eyelets if you want too. These shoes were a little stiff at first and I had to walk in for a couple of months to get them to bend. If I were you, I'd bend the sole a few times, (your toe towards your face that direction). Also, the soles appear to be a like a plastic rubber type thing, (unlike the rubber kind they usually use) so scratch them up at first to make more traction or they will slip a little on wet surfaces. Also, DON"T walk in really high water with them, I did and the water seemed to leak through a little bit. My socks got a little damp. I am happy with my Eastland boots once again! They are well made and you can use them for everyday wear or even to hike in. Plus, they LAST five years or more. A great buy!

I couldn't decide between the suede or the beeswax leather.I know smooth leather is much easier to care for and more durable,but I liked the looks of the suede so much more.I sprayed them with Kiwi suede protector right away which helps the suede to propel water and stains.I love them.They have zero arch support but according to new research that's better anyway.I am a size 8.5 and that is the size that I ordered.They fit generously which I like.

These look and fit great only need to be oiled and broken in around the heel the leather is very inflexible and the top part of the boot cut into the back of my leg because there was no initial give. Still would recommend to anyone Clark's is a great brand.

I wear these almost everyday. There is a break in period but it's nothing intolerable. The leather darkens after a few weeks of wear. I looove the buckle detail and it gives a bit more stretch to the boot. The crepe sole eventually turns black from dirt but no big deal. These boots are warm during the winter too!

Although I'm still breaking in these boots, they are already the most comfortable shoes I own. The leather is soft but still supportive, same with the soles. The sizing is accurate, as is the description of the leather.

I was SO disappointed with these boots. They were very uncomfortable, but were true to size. They weren't real leather which I expected for the price. Also they looked different in person and weren't as cute. The front part was more narrow than I expected.

Buy FRYE Men's Hudson Chukka Boot

Ordered these in size 11/M, Nubuck. Fit is good and comfy. Soft foot bed, though some may opt to upgrade, I didn't. Love the color Nubuck, which resembles a grayish color. The soles are soft, yet stable, which should reduce shock on the feet. The sole actually reminds me of a Clark's Original, but I would prefer the Frye. Goes great with jeans or khaki's. I have a dark brown pair similar to this made my Chaps, ($37.00), but there is definitely a difference, Frye being the superior of the two, Cadillac and Yugo. The sole also has a neat little leather Frye patch stitched to the bottom, only cool for the owner because they know its there. Made in Mexico, no complaints there. If you're in to cowboy boots, then you can understand my confidence in Mexico producing a quality shoe, they make top shelf, (premium), quality cowboy boots, so a chukka should be no problem. This shoes has a worn appearance, darker toe and heel than rest of the shoe, which is cool. No complaints on this one.

Update: Telephoned the Frye Company on Friday, 5/25/2012 and spoke with their customer service about another shoe that I was having sizing problems with. Love the shoe, but sizing was terribly off, something not typical of Frye. Long story short, I made mention of Frye having shoes made in China under the pretense of American owned/quality and was informed that the company had be bought out by someone else. End result, out-sourcing to China will become the standard for future Frye shoes, but the prices will remain the same; high! Hhhmmm, more money for the new owner, quality reduction for the end users/purchaser of their products. Mexico is currently the chief producer of Frye products, which I can deal with, but like Chinese products, the only person who benefits are the business owners, less out of pocket expense, cheap labor, etc. Gotta be honest, like Frye products, but I also like their competitor's products, Timberland Boot Company and The Vintage Shoe Company.

If a company is gonna claim US quality since 1863, but out source, at what point does false advertisement come into play. There are a lot of other brands out there that are a lot less expensive and they at least have the audacity to admit that their products are out sourced. That I can deal with, but out right lying is another story when it comes to my dollars.

I love Ralph Lauren's line of clothing so I figured I'd give his boots a try. Needless to say I'm not disappointed. The boots are made from high quality materials and they are very warm. From what I can tell they will not need a lot of break-in as they wear very well. I have the all black version with red lining and they fantastic looking. Plus, they go great with jeans. Highly recommended.
