As a kid I grew up in Minnesota and we wore Minnetonka's all the time. I now wear almost only Rockports (never need to be broken in, lightweight etc). These chukka's do not measure up to the rockports, but they do work if you know what you are getting:
I wear a size 11 regular on shoes, and most chukkas 10.5, so I got 10.5's. They fit, but these are not wide. If you have wide feet, try and find a wider version.
the heel on these is about 1/2 inch (most chukkas have a higher heel). This gives you more of a feeling like you are barefoot than a regular chukka (which tend to feel like you are wearing boots)
this material is leather/suede, but thin. I think you could live in 50's up, but colder would be felt right through the shoe.
this is not for wet weather. The sole is plastic and sewn close to the upper, so you cannot wear these in rain or anything.
the upper is sown inside (a lot of boots and chukkas have the stitching on the outside so the sole is wider than the upper this is what contributes to the tight feel for my size.
some people do not like the fringes they are high enough up that if you wear long pants they will not show when you are standing.
these are pretty comfortable, but have no gel insert (compare the rockport's with adidas adiprene highly recommended). I will be putting in a gel insert but you will have to be careful if you order a half size down like I did, the room is pretty tight.
I am not sure how much I will wear them they will be best for spring and fall with jeans, and it is hard to beat my rockports . . . but these are pretty much what I remember as a kid and seem to be of reasonable quality.

I got the Gargoyle color in size 10.5. The insoles are firm yet compfortable. The laces are pretty much for decoration, as the tongue is attached to the shoe 3/4 of the way up. All in all, I find it to be a good quality product. Ordered on 14th, got here the 16 with no extra charge.

I, the mom, saw this shoe for a good price on Amazon. I respect the Keen product, so I went out on a stylist limb and purchased them for my fashion conscious 23 year-old son. These shoes feel great but don't offer really any support so be aware of that before you buy. They are essentially converse high tops but made out of quality leather and with a comfy foot bed. These chukkas are a bit different which is what I was looking for. These have nice solid side walls to keep the ankle in place. I have looked through many boots and some of them are limp sided and that's not good for anyone. They are very comfortable just like all the Keens I own. If you can find them for a good price don't pass on them.

Best Johnston & Murphy Men's Copeland Chukka Boot Deals
These are very easily the best looking boots I've ever owned. They do look great in the product images, but the images honestly don't do them justice. I was also surprised at how well structured and constructed they are. They are definitely a heavy boot--even more so than Clark's chukka boots--but that's what I was hoping for. I will say that they do lean more casual, and would likely be difficult to work into any office outfits.
In terms of size, I'd say they do run about a half size big. I typically wear 10-11, ordered these in 10.5 and I'd probably have to return them for a size 10 if I weren't planning on wearing them with wool socks. With thick socks the 10.5 will work fine though.
Very happy with the purchase, and if you're looking for a solid, casual boot that you can hold on for years, I'd highly recommend these.
The J&M Copelands are deliciously comfortable and resist moist or wet pavement well with their rubber soles. Beware getting marks, scuffs and dirt on the suede (as you would with any suede garment or shoe) because the reddish/orange color is sheer perfection and nothing should distract from the inevitable attention these shoes have given me. I think they are great! Good arch/heel support and fits like a glove.
And it's good to see J&M branching out from the reputation of being somewhat stodgey and for "old" men. Although the cut is not ready to be worn with a suit -they still have a decidedly "American" style to the design -they are show-stoppers with a good pair of dark denim jeans, dressed up or down. No real complaints, but imagine a sleeker, narrower shoe in this color, with a lug sole for rain/ice/snow... THAT would get 5 stars.

Discount Rockport Men's Eastern Standard Mid PT Boot
These are very well built shoes. Good leather, nice stitching. They are stylish and comfortable. My only issue with them is that the bottoms have worn out rather quickly. I do wear them for work daily but the bottoms feel a little soft/spongy and after only 6 months they have areas that worn smooth.

The boots came in very cold weather and at first I thought they would be stiff and inflexible. But once I laced up and began wearing them they softened up a bit. They are very comfortable. I thought I would have a little extra room in the 9 but it is a good fit. Though they are a bit narrow. They look good on my feet and have a nice distressed look that I was looking for. I would recommend.
