I've owned this boot for the past four years, and I have no complaints whatsoever. They have traveled around the world with me, been through mud, snow, slush, from the trail to the city. I've worn them throughout college, and they withstood countless spilled drinks, broken glass, and harsh winters. They are very comfortable, and waterproof. I would recomend this product to everyone, from the avid backpacker to the urban survivor.

I have been buying these boots for 6 years. I buy a new pair every year to wear during the week for work. I move the previous years down to my weekend boots since I am quite an outdoor person and am always working on something. The boots last great and easily last a couple years of HARD use. Not only are they well made they fit like a glove from the time you first put them on. I have never had a break in period with these like most boots. These just fit right straight out of the box. I only hope Rocky continues to make this boot because I will never buy another again. I once had the Justin's version and they sole wore out within 6 months and were very uncomfortable for few weeks. Only thing is seems like the quality of the laces have went down the last couple pairs but that's minor.

I have had these boots for over a month now with about 4-5 miles of walking each day (up and down stairs, over conveyors, in the office, and outside in the dirt). I have not had them on in muddy or rough conditions but they work perfect for plant conditions. After learning the "mountaneering tie" for the laces, I have prevented most rubbing/blisters on my heel. They are made of a very durable and soft leather and look great. These are great for someone who wants the ruggedness and look of work boots without the loss of comfort or the ability to fit in in the office environment.

First of all, I love Merrells, so I fully expected to love this boot. When they arrived, I was a little nervous because I am not an avid hiker, and I was almost hyperventilating over spending this much money on a pair of boots that was probably not going to get a lot of use (I know...Merrells are expensive, but I'm a frugal gal, and expensive shoes need to be WORTH the $$$)...BUT my husband is taking me on a backpacking trip, so I needed something that was going to give me ankle support (since I managed to twist my ankle the last time we went hiking -without backpacksin regular trail shoes on a similar trail). I digress... I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived. The color is a little more "grayish lavender" rather than the "pinkinsh-lilac" my monitor shows...but monitors are all different, so I am not complaining. It's still a nice color. I was really happy with the fit, although I did purposefully order a half size up since I had another pair of Merrel Mid boots (Chameleon Arc 2) that my size was too small for me. I wear a 9.5 and decided to order a 10 in the Salidas. Glad I did, they fit perfect with my thick hiking socks. They were so comfortable that I forgot I was wearing them and spent most of the day walking around my house in them. It is very nice to NOT have to break them in. I may still get a different insole, but I don't think I'd HAVE to since I don't have major foot issues. (If I had bought them for my daughter who has severely pronated feet, I would definitely replace the manufacturer insoles with better ones for extra arch support.) I can't wait to try them on the trail. I'll try to get back to update how they handle the terrain. Overall, great shoes.

UPDATE: After an overnight backpacking trip on a easy-moderate mountain trail (carrying ~20lb pack), I still love them, but I am definitely going to replace the manufacturer insoles with some good insoles. They were fine for walking around the house, and probably would do well on a flat paved/"maintained" trail, but even though my feet weren't sore, they would have been "happier" with a little extra support. I still loved them the 2nd day after we finished and even wore them to walk around a botanical garden for a couple hours on the way home from our hike...no problems. I can't comment on the waterproofing b/c we only crossed one very shallow/narrow stream, and I really didn't feel like "testing them out" on purpose. :-)

Allen Edmonds Men's Shelton Saddle Shoe Review

I never have been crazy about the looks of a saddle shoe but somehow over years it has grown on me to a point where I bought this shoe recently. Great shoe. The style looks much better (and understated) than I was expecting. Very happy with the looks of the shoe.

The shoe is a made of what seems to me to be a really good grade of leather. I got the walnut/brown combination and just as with my other walnut AE shoes, there is a slight color variation within the walnut that's subtle and really good looking. This is my 4th pair of AE shoes and I plan to keep on adding more to the collection based on my experience with the brand so far. This is my first time trying out their "double oak" sole, which has a very solid/study feel to it. I'll be looking to add more of their "double oak" leather sole shoes in the future as well.

It is a very comfortable shoe, but definitely has a break in period. For me the shoe was comfortable after 1 day of wearing them, and has just been getting better from there on (YMMV on the break in time).

Really happy with this shoe.

While browsing other AE styles, I noticed the Shelton here. I realized they are the successor to the AE "Polo" pair that I own. I purchased my pair of AE Saddle Oxfords in Black/Burgandy in 1981 (no typo 30 years ago.) I had them re-soled by a quality cobbler...maybe 1999-2000. They have the creases of use and wear, but still shine beautifully and feel like only an AE shoe can. I have owned many pairs of AE shoes (& a couple of pairs of boots.) over the years. No trendy styling, but solid quality, durability, and class. BTW...I have owned a few pairs of Johnson Murphy's good shoes, but still not close to the superior AE's!!

maybe if your a kid or young person they be fine. but Im 50+ and need flexable comfortable footwear. very nice be unfortunately I did give them away to grand who absolutely loved them. and she still does today.

The soles of these boots are hard and unyielding and very painful to arthritic feet! Appear very cheaply made. I will return these as quickly as possible!
