I'm submitting this review Apr. 2, 2011. My 2009 review is revised to reflect the updated version of this boot.

It saddens me to report that this boot was modified by Timberland and made much worse. I totally loved the previous version. Here are my findings after buying this latest model:

PROS:

Nothing was improved upon. I will say that, at least, the boot is still waterproof thus far.

CONS:

The worst change is in the shank supporting the middle of the foot. Before, the Rugged Street Chukka was a lot more rigid in the midsole area. It seems now that a weaker, more pliable material has been substituted. This new shank material allows uncomfortable pronation, or twisting and bending, of the shank when stepping onto uneven surfaces. I'd have paid more money if they'd left this design feature the same.

Next, Timberland raised the height of the toe box noticeably. A little might've been okay, but they went overboard for sure. I bought this boot in the correct length and width, but my foot still slides forward due to the tall height of the toe box. Also, the excess height of the toe section makes this boot appear more like a work or strictly outdoor boot. Previously, the design was much more urban and versatile, due to a shorter toe box. All change is not good.

I bought a pair of these in 14 W. Usually I try on any pair of shoes I buy, but it's almost impossible to find anything stylish in my size. They are awesome, and I wear them a lot, but definitely not for long periods of time. Most W and 2E width shoes I've bought fit perfectly, but the Timberland Wide seems to be narrower than most, so beware if you need the extra width. I still get my feet in fine, but I also usually where Orthotics, but the shoes are too narrow for them. All in all they're a good, durable shoe, just beware of sizing.

Stylish and good looking shoe. Ordered 1/2 size smaller than I usually wear in other brands and they fit perfect. I hear that Timberland sizes usually work that way. Not the most comfortable pair of shoes I've ever had but feel pretty good and they work well. The bar was set pretty high by my Asics Allwalks Chukkas that haven't been made for a few years. Overall very pleased with the shoes.

I POSTED COMMENTS ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE SHOES'S. ( BUT FOR SOMEREASON MY COMMENTS ARE BEING ERASED) I PAID FOR NEW TIMBERLANDS AND THEY SENT ME OLD SHOES. THEY SENT ME SHOES THAT WERE PREVIOUSLY WORN. i BOUGHT A PAIR OF THESE ALMOST 2 YEARS AGO. HOWEVER, I ALSO BOUGHT A SUPPOSEDLY NEW PAIR IN JULY. WHEN I RECEIVED THEM THEY LOOKED SO WORN OUT. THEY LOOKED SO USED, I COULDNT TELL THE DIFFRENCE BETWEEN MY OLD PAIR AND MY SUPPOSEDLY NEW PAIR! I WOULD OFTEN PUT THE OLD SHOES ON ASSUMING THAT THEY WERE MY NEW SHOES. THIS IS HOW AWFUL THEY LOOK! BEWARE OF SHOEMALL! THEY ARE HORRIBLE! THEY SELL REFURBISHED OR RESUFACED SHOES. SHOE-MALL IS A LOW BUDGET PLACE.

I just received these in the mail. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever put on..however, they look a little different than pictured. They don't have the rubber sole that is shown. Instead they dont have any sole. I wanted to wear them out, however, I probably shouldn't because water or dirt will seep in through the bottoms. That is the only negative thing. Overall they are very comfortable and look cute. I wouldn't buy these though if you are thinking about wearing these outdoors often. They are more for indoors.

As someone else noted on another "Soft Sole" type, the moccasins need to be seasoned!!! I have another style of soft bottom that I've been wearing for over 15 years that I wear outside all the time! Not a problem in a light rain. Once the bottem's get a slick glossy look to them, they can even take some snow. I love to wear them when we go hiking and rock climbing at Natural Bridge. Walking a lot in the grass will help season them.

True, these are the throwback moccasin, just what I was looking for on here. But, order larger bc they are made to fit snug. Also, these have the padded sole insert GLUED to the inside of the moccasin, therefore you Cannot take it out and have the true throwback feeling of nothing but the leather between your foot and the ground. I had been looking for a pair like that for a long time and thought that these were it. I used to wear a pair just like this everywhere, but for the rubber insert, this is what I wanted.

These softsoles take me back to the 70's. Everyone was wearing them. They are still as comfortable as they were back then. The only thing that would make them better is if they were also made with a rubber sole so they could be worn in or out regardless of the weather.

I have narrow feet and they fit perfectly. I usually purcahse 9 1/2 but 9 fits me much better in Minnetonka. They are narrow but not short. I have several pairs of Minnetonkas by now, but these are like magic shoes. My feet feel the ground. I am a practicing Buddhist and do some walking exercises. These shoes are amazing. I have had some balance problems, and wearing Minnetonkas has improved my balance and safety greatly. Also these style makes my feet look tiny!

These are nice boots. Not quite as nice as a similar pair of Timberlands I have, but they're good value for the price I paid.

Very nice boots!

They fit very comfortably, even on my wide feet, and retain a nice shine.

Even though this style may be considered "retro" by some (I had a similar pair to these in brown back in 1972), the shape of the foot has a modern, somewhat angular shape. (But not that wretched flattened duck-toe that seems to be all the rage lately.)

Versatile as well, in my opinion. Dressy enough to wear with a suit, casual enough to wear with jeans.

I was a tad worried about the hidden elastic strap that holds the buckle, but I've had these over a year now and there's been no problems. In fact, the elastic strap makes these very easy to buckle and unbuckle.

Highly recommended.

I wear a 10D in most things, these were too big . I could probably wear a 91/2 but they did not have them.

So...Back they went. What I can tell you is...They are light and I think would be a very comfortable boot.

The buckle is on elastic which will limit how tight you can strap them down.I give it 3 stars on what I saw and felt.
