I tried the side zip boot version of this but my calves were too big. This was a great second choice. Still has the knobby sole for getting around in snow and slush, Gore Tex lined to keep the water out, plus the kangaroo leather is very pliable. Almost no break-in period required. Doesn't look too out of place in my office which is "office casual" dress. I looked at others but this one had no speed laces. From past experience speed laces catch on the inside of my pants and I've ripped the hem out of more than one pair of khakis. Very well made plus my local shoe repair guy can replace the sole when it wears out. That's not as common these days as it used to be.

I was looking for a boot to do it all: slog through winter salty slush, hike up rocky mountain paths and still look good when I arrive at a client for a service call. This boot exceeds my demands. My previous Irish Setters had hook laces and I was worried that not having them would be a hassle. Once I broke them in they are actually easier to put on and take off than the other ones.

These shoes are great in the wet, particularly during colder weather. The combination of soft kangaroo leather and heavier cowhide make them both comfortable and durable (though the "two-tone" color is not as pronounced as shown in the illustration, at least in my pair.) This is my first experience with the Irish Setter brand, but I doubt that it will be my last. Highly recommended.

I've had two pair of these, the first pair lasted almost ten years. I plan on having them resoled and they are plenty decent enough to continue to use. My new pair is just as good as the first pair. They are comfortable, durable and just keep looking great. This is the best value in footwear I've ever owned.

I ordered the a size 10 army green pair. I have at least three other Seychelles boots in a size 10 and this one was about a centimeter longer than the rest. The suede is beautiful, the soles are sturdy, and the color is perfect for fall. Sadly, these are going back because of the sizing issue. Also, if you have slender calves/ankles, these boots look a bit like duck boots. It would be better suited for someone with thicker legs.

As other reviews mentioned, these can run a little tight so I went up a 1/2 size and that was the right move. The outer sole is a bit stiff but should flex and wear well.

I bought these shoes last fall: I was looking for a snow-friendly, minimalist shoe, and this one fit the bill. Plus, I've had excellent experience with Merrell's shoe quality in the past.

Over the four months or so, I've worn these shoes just about every day, always with socks. What I like about these shoes:

* Lightweight (there's very little to the shoe beyond what you see in the photos)

* My feet don't sweat in them (I can't explain this as the shoe has no obvious venting)

* The shoes don't stink (remember, I've worn these almost every day)

* There's very little between my foot and the ground, just my socks and the thin layer of the shoe.

* No cushioning or arch support (sorta the reason why I bought a minimalist shoe)

I'm neutral on the shoes' appearance. It's not really my style (too earthy), but I'm okay with it.

The one problem area that you'll see mentioned in other reviews (here as well on Merrell's web site) are the laces. Due to friction at the last set of eyeholes, the laces are very close to breaking. So I have four points in the laces such that one of them will break at any time. I measured them at 39", but have so far had no luck finding replacement laces on Merrell's web site. Eventually I'll find replacement laces, they shouldn't have worn out this quickly, and be this much work to find replacements.

I was looking for casual minimalist shoe wear. Having bought and love Merrell's Trail Glove, I thought it would be natural to get casual ware from Merrell. I have been watching prices online. Sorry, but I didn't buy from the big A, but from 6pm.com during a sale for $69. Basically, the shoe works for me. It does appear the thicker sole and non venting upper will provide the warmth needed in cold weather (along with some wool socks). The picture appears to suggest the shoe would ride higher around the ankle, but on my feet, it just barely reaches the base of the ankle. I really wanted a chukka style shoe. This just barely qualifies. While I don't know how they would accomplish this, the upper around the ankle appears and feels a bit unfinished. Somehow, much like other shoes, a padded border around the ankle would be an improvement worth investigating. I'm sure they'll do fine for me. It's just that the finish around the ankle--higher and more built-up, please!--was less than I expected. Since then, I've seen even more minimalist chukka-style casual ware out there I would likely have purchased instead given what I know now.

These are very comfortable, lightweight, and stylish. My one complaint is that the laces fall apart within a few weeks. HOWEVER, I chatted with Merrell and they sent me 2 pairs of redesigned laces free and they work great!

This is one of the barefoot shoes that fits a casual look and I love them. Have held up well after a couple of months and I think they look good. Feels like you are walking barefoot ( duh). You won't go hiking with these but for my use they work great and are helping to strengthen my feet.

This was a fun and cute boot, which unfortunately didn't last very long as minimal impacts of brushes with the envirtonment scratched the boot too easily until it was too unsightly to wear. Good for 5 wears maybe :(

Very pretty and comfortable boots. True to the size. The only problem is that as they are wide in the ankle, they tend to came off. So, walking a lot with them is not recomended.

True, that snap cannot be undone as indicated. I tried of course just in case the other reviewer had a freak incident with her pair. Nope, it's stuck down. However I do find the boots to be padded just fine and way more comfortable than my other comparably priced heeled boots and pumps!

Now my warning is thisI read the one review regarding size and ordered a 7.5 which is the larger of my typical shoe range because I like how she said she could wear thicker socks. Unfortunately, the box I received is labeled 7.5 but the shoes packed inside are 7s =(

As the other girl said, the smaller size does work, but with only thin socks or nylons even. I noticed they seemed oddly tight when getting dressed but rushed out the door anyway so I didn't notice this mistake until the boots had been worn all day.I didn't bother to try and return them at that point. So I don't know how easy the return process would have been. As I said though, they do fit ok and are comfy! Just take this as a warning to double check the actual size of the shoes inside the box you receive.

I wanted an easy on and off boot, with a not too high heel to wear under jeans to look more dressy when going out for dinner or what not in cold weather. These are definitely easy on and off, have a great heel height for me, and are pretty comfortable, though I haven't walked any long distance in them at a. The ankle area at the top is HUGE, though. Which isn't probably a big deal for wearing under jeans, but it may look weird to wear with just tights and a dress if I wanted to go with that type of look. On the plus side, the wider ankle means it should fit my jeans inside it pretty easily if I want that type of look. But, if you want a boot with a more fitted ankle, this is not the boot for you. Seems to run true to size, I fall between an 8 to an 8.5 in boots, so I went with the 8.5 in these to be on the safe side, but I think I could have easily gone with the 8. But with the extra room, it means I can wear a really nice thick sock with it in cold weather and not feel squished.
